Espresso, heated milk, and frothy steamed milk are the classic ingredients in the classic Italian coffee drink known as a cappuccino.
Originating with the Capuchin friars, cappuccino is a diminutive form of the Italian word cappuccino, meaning hood or head covering. The friars’ hooded robes were the inspiration for the name of this popular coffee drink, not the hood on their habits. (The Capuchin friars are a branch of the Franciscans and a religious order within the Catholic Church.)
